Press release: “Welcome to the Doll-Theatre” by Kristine Mandsberg.

Art, design, storytelling, animation, video, installation, costumes, props, print, and textile. All of this is brought together in Kristine Mandsbergs’ first solo exhibition, which will be displayed at Senko Studio in Viborg:DK from the 8th of August until the 6th of September 2009. The exhibition explores the crossover between design and art – the idea of uniting concept and craft, linked to a narrative, which will appeal to both a visual, sensuous, and emotional experience.Kristine Mandsberg studied at the Royal College of Art in London, where she graduated in 2008. Among other things she has worked as the designer of the opera ”The First Commandment” and designed her own printed textile collection for IKEA. Recently she was nominated for Politikens Talent Award 2009 for her piece ”Reality is Relative”, an animation which was exhibited at The Springexhibition at Charlottenborg 2009. ”Welcome to the Doll-Theatre” is Kristine Mandsbergs’ newest work, which has been produced at The National Workshop of Arts and Craft, with financial support from The Danish Arts Foundation.

Making the animation/film: "Welcome to the Doll-Theatre". Stopmotion, video and a projector were used.

I had excellent help from my brother Rasmus and my friend Helene Sparwath.

10/07-2009: Right now I am based at "The National Workshop of Arts and Craft" here in Copenhagen. I am working on the project "Welcome to the Doll-Theatre",which is a short video/animation containing 7 different scenes featuring "dolls"... I'll soon upload it to my website, but until then have a look at the stills from the animation "LINK".
